Paver Cleaning & Sealing in St. Augustine
Pavers are three jobs, not one. Cleaning lifts the growth and the surface film; re-sanding restores the joints that hold the field together; sealing locks it in and decides how the finished surface looks.
- Clean · re-sand · seal
- Polymeric joint sand
- Natural or wet-look

The order matters, and skipping a step shows
Washing pavers blows out the joint sand. That is unavoidable and it is why sand has to be replaced before anything is sealed — sealing over depleted joints locks in a surface that will shift and weed within a year.
Polymeric sand is swept into the joints, set with a light mist, and allowed to cure. Only then does sealer go down. Anyone quoting a clean-and-seal with no re-sanding step is skipping the part that does the structural work.
Choosing a finish before it is on the ground
- Natural / matte — colour comes up slightly, no shine. The safe choice on a pool deck where glare and grip matter.
- Wet-look / high gloss — deepens colour considerably. Striking on a driveway or entry. It shows wear at traffic points and it is slick when wet, which is why it is a poor choice around a pool.
- Joint stabilising — a sealer formulated to bind the sand as well as coat the paver. Worth it on a sloped driveway.
Sealer is close to irreversible. Stripping a gloss sealer off a large paver field is a far bigger job than laying it, so the sample should be looked at wet, on your own pavers, before the whole deck is committed.
Questions
Worth asking before you book
How often do pavers need sealing in Florida?
Typically every two to four years, and sooner on a driveway than a shaded patio. UV and rain are what break a sealer down, so a west-facing pool deck ages fastest.
My pavers have white haze. What is that?
Usually efflorescence — mineral salts migrating out of the paver. It needs a specific efflorescence remover, not stronger pressure, and it can return on new pavers for the first year or two.
